It's a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids after they're hurtled Rio de Janeiro to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel, and meets the most fearsome adversary of all: his father-in-law.
A very unfocused, sporadically funny film, lifted by its (predictable) visual splendour.
The swooping 3D musical numbers pop with colour – but it’s hard to see where this feathered-family franchise could fly next.
This is a dead parrot.
Like the Ice Age films, Rio 2 is an amiable enough cartoon, as forgettable as its predecessor but certainly colourful and incident packed enough to be marked as passable family entertainment.
There is enough colour, wit and inventiveness here to make this acceptable enough Easter holiday fare for children and adults alike.
More converting of wild animals into cash cows in this sequel relocated to the Amazon but with an even blander script.
Instead of a strong narrative there are several, rather uninspired sub-plots revolving around illegal logging, family strife and belonging, but exuberant musical numbers and gorgeous visuals make this fly.
More of the same (with a soupcon less sparkle).
Cheerful, family-friendly and gorgeous to look at, although the script is feather-light.
A generic, brightly coloured sequel to 2011’s generic, brightly coloured animation hit.
