Listen Up Philip

Comedy, Drama

Anger rages in Philip as he awaits the publication of his second novel. Read more …

He feels pushed out of his adopted home city by the constant crowds and noise, a deteriorating relationship with his photographer girlfriend Ashley, and his own indifference to promoting the novel. When Philip's idol Ike Zimmerman offers his isolated summer home as a refuge, he finally gets the peace and quiet to focus on his favourite subject: himself.

The critical consensus

Jason Schwartzman shines in this hugely entertaining retro comedy.

****(*)Katherine McLaughlin, The List, 01/06/2015

Ultimately, this has the feel of a lazy literary adaptation of a half-remembered novel.

**(*)(*)(*)David Hughes, Empire Online, 01/06/2015

Jason Schwartzman deploys his deadpan shtick brilliantly as a breathtakingly rude young writer in an indie romcom that subverts film-making convention.

****(*)Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, 04/06/2015

Jason Schwartzman is convincing as a narcissistic writer in meltdown, but a bit less indulgence wouldn’t go amiss.
