Drama, based on a true story, about a struggle to survive on board a boat at sea after a hurricane strikes.
Hampered by a script that fails to make the central love affair work and few new ideas while they’re stranded at sea, even the best efforts of its talented lead pair can’t keep this afloat.
What does work is the chemistry between Woodley and Claflin, who convincingly convey that first flush of romance. Like any good date movie, their belief in each other is what keeps you watching.
Overexplained premise nearly sinks it in the end.
Like the two young sailors on their ill-fated voyage, the film drifts very far off course and struggles to rediscover any meaningful sense of direction.
That it comes up short is a surprise.
