US comedy in which an adult woman is magically transformed into a younger version of herself.
Vanishes in the shadow of Big.
Little is a riotous and knowing love letter to black girl magic, that also celebrates black women's contribution to popular culture, with one of the highlights being a deliciously astute homage to Beyoncé's Coachella performance.
A dictatorial tech entrepreneur is magically transformed into her younger self in this confused comedy with little to laugh at.
This is one of those wish fulfilment fables in which a transformation, supposedly for the better, risks dulling the heroine. The more emotionally mature she becomes, the fewer laughs she elicits.
Either choose to dwell on Little’s formulaic storyline, or be charmed by the confident comedic performances of its three stars. One will lead to an infinitely more fun time at the movies.
The film is cute enough, even if key ideas aren’t especially novel: it’s lonely at the top; we need to connect with our inner child; everyone is insecure as a teenager. It becomes more appealing when its jokes are specific.
