The action is transferred from deserted island to deserted theatre. A group of schoolboys find themselves abandoned. With no adults around they start to make their own rules and create their own civilisation, before order breaks down and the story builds to an electrifying climax.
With a cast of New Adventures dancers and remarkable talent from Glasgow, Golding’s legendary characters Ralph, Piggy, Jack and the boys will be brought to life with raw energy and emotional intensity.
Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures has created some of the most successful shows of the last 25 years, including Swan Lake, Nutcracker! and the sell-out hit, Sleeping Beauty.
After a slow start, the pace picks up but unfortunately the piece remains detached - somewhat episodic and clunky.
This Lord of the Flies is not unflawed, but patently a triumph for Bourne’s New Adventures company.
Golding chilled us with his text; now Bourne re-awakens this feeling with his visuals. When tyranny leads and order is lost, the masses have a choice: hunt or be hunted.
An enjoyable performance that could be tweaked to become even better. A massive well done to the local boys who look set to achieve wonderful things on stage!
