The End is a gritty account of the last days of an old man's life as he struggles to live despite his willingness to die. Evicted from an institution of care he stoically fends for himself in a state somewhere between his dreams and reality. Beckett masterfully balances the tragedy with perfectly pitched comedy.
There seems to be nothing profound here, and therein lies the enigma of Beckett: constantly reflecting, always in motion and impossible to ever pin down.
