This new musical comedy, direct from Broadway, boasts a stellar all star cast including Natalie Casey (Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Legally Blonde the Musical), Bonnie Langford (Chicago, Spamalot, Cats), Ben Richards (Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Grease, The Bill), Jackie Clune (Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia!) and Amy Lennox (Legally Blonde the Musical, The Sound of Music) and is based on the hit movie and centres on three office workers who turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical, lying, bigot of a boss. They conspire to take control of the company and learn there's nothing they can't do - even in a man's world. Outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic, Dolly Parton - 9 to 5 The Musical is about teaming up and taking care of business.
Feisty, fun and oh so fabulous! This show features Dolly Parton's original hit title song, 9 to 5 which won her an Oscar nomination and 4 Grammy Award nominations along with her new Tony® and Grammy nominated score. These 18 original numbers that mix Broadway and pop with Dolly's signature witty lyrics will have you kicking up your heels. Leave your daily grind behind and join in on the fun.
Jeff Calhoun’s direction is sound rather than outstanding with an emphasis on choreography to ensure a slick, seamless show.
There is a terrific joie de vivre about this stage version of 9 to 5, which struck me as being more fun than the movie.
The show provides plenty of bright breezy, colourful, feelgood fare.
9 to 5 the Musical is funny and uplifting but other film-to-musical adaptations recently (Legally Blonde and Sister Act) have been more impressive.
If the show itself sometimes seems uncertain whether to go for strong social comedy or outright farce – well, in the end that vagueness seems forgivable, as we spill out singing, into the chilly autumn night.
9 to 5 remains a thoroughly enjoyable piece of musical theatre, bolstered by an exceptionally talented and funny cast and a design that is executed as beautifully as Dolly's latest enhancement.
A great, life-affirming and grin-inducing night out.
A very good day at the office for women as they get their revenge and make their point! 9 to 5 is at times a comic romp bordering on farce but there is a serious point being made.
It’s a little bit of marmite that will either float your boat or sink it like a stone.
If you’re looking for a couple of hours of fun entertainment it’s definitely worth clocking-in for 9 To 5. Whether it’s worth playing full whack rather depends on the value you place in getting close to the stars.
