Through all of this, Sheader and his large ensemble cast have created a thrillingly timeless look at Golding's parable of corrupted civilisation which suggests that barbarism really does begin at home.
It remains a terrifyingly disturbing tale of the dark side of human nature and this moody, atmospheric adaptation is a fine testament to the brilliance of its source.
The final result is terrifying as the production progresses and the pack mentality emerges.
