Set both on and off-stage during the production of a musical version of Shakespeare’s theatrical farce The Taming of the Shrew, Kiss Me, Kate revolves around the tempestuous love lives of actor-producer Fred and his leading lady turned ex-wife, Lilli Vanessi. Sparky, energetic and seriously good fun.
The cast are top class; as are the musicians. The set changes are as slick as the direction and choreography. And the humour is bawdy, but perfectly pitched. However, it is the genius of Cole Porter’s music and lyrics which elevate the two hours and fifty minutes of song and dance from hot to “Too Darn Hot”.
Above all, the great music superbly played by the orchestra and backed by a fine chorus will keep you happy right to the very end.
