A noir thriller told from the point of view of a femme fatale, who falls for the detective in charge of a murder case.
A sleek, sombre thriller that’s a little too tricksy for its own good.
Slow but absorbing and finely performed.
The film is far stronger on atmosphere and performance than it is on its plotting, which becomes ever more stretched and improbable.
The lacklustre procedural elements are fairly preposterous too and require a ludicrous suspension of disbelief to make them work. Alas, nothing in the film is effective enough to make you want to do so.
A classy, enigmatic thriller that shows off contemporary London at its cinematic best.
The drama is played with absolute conviction by Rampling and Byrne, and there is a nice supporting role for Eddie Marsan as Byrne's long-suffering Met colleague, but the story itself is unconvincing.
Slick, tricksy.
With all that talent involved, this really should've been great.
Laboured art-house thriller.
