Muriel Bayen, a divorced beautician and mother of two, loves to tell stories. She is a huge fan of this singer Vincent Lacroix, in fact she is a dedicated fan. One day Vincent knock on her door and ask for her help.
A subtle, laugh-out-loud film with more unexpected twists than prime Hitchcock. Absolutely superb, and one that keeps the audience on their toes right up to the end.
Sandrine Kiberlain plays an obsessive, near-stalker fan of singer Vincent Lacroix in this black comedy-thriller that deserves a bigger audience.
Alas, while writer/director Jeanne Herry – the daughter of French crooner Julien Cler and actress Miou-Miou – has fun exploring the dynamic between idoliser and idol, too often she lets the film’s preposterous plotting get in the way of saying anything fresh about celebrity and its nose-against-the-glass allure.
This is enjoyably twisty nonsense, the Hitchcockian plot delivering a few unexpected inversions, its sinewy stalker-themes elegantly unpicked by impressive first time co-writer/director Jeanne Herry.
