owards the end, the film does fling everything it possibly can at you – which doesn't work in its favour, especially when it comes to tying it all into the previous film – but, for the most part, this horror is dead good.
Mike Flanagan’s film is essentially a branding exercise and its setup formulaic, but the director injects plenty of fun into this story of supernatural possession.
There is a pleasingly unexpected twist at the end which is a welcome change from being able to second-guess the endings of so many movies in this genre.
A simpler approach might have chilled our blood more effectively – but there are a few moments here that should jolt you out of your seats.
Nicely made but awfully familiar.
This prequel to the supernatural vehicle for a board game is impressively tense – for the first hour at least.
