The digital detailing, especially on Rango...is a joy.
The film hits more than it misses.
The movie isn’t in 3D, because it doesn’t need to be: it knows how to make richly original images pop and stay in your head, and crafts every sequence with dazzling texture and care.

The script, by John Logan, unfolds a classic Western tale that leans heavily on the plot of Chinatown. Gore Verbinski and his visual consultant Roger Deakins work marvels, both in the animal characterisation and the parched desert scrubland where most of it takes place.
Not for the very young perhaps, but ideal for teens and adults.
The strangeness is off the scale in a kooky concoction that might have been hatched at the bottom of a bong. Then again, what do you expect with Johnny involved?
Boring for long stretches...it's also short on the cute factor.
A definite must-see then for all the kids and kids-at-heart who always wanted to be sheriff themselves.
It's defiantly eccentric and often very funny.
Gore Verbinski's sophisticated, extremely amusing CGI animated movie, a cartoon for adults as opposed to an adult cartoon.
This homage to the genre will please Sergio Leone fans, but may leave younger viewers fidgeting.
