Documentary comprising four essay-films about the writer John Berger, in which Swinton and fellow film-makers hang out with him and discuss what it calls his ‘radical, democratic humanism’. Each film is stand-alone but they form a lovely mosaic, being not just about Berger but also about how others respond to him.
Wonderful documentary about the titular storyteller which counts Tilda Swinton amongst its filmmakers.
Well-meaning and sometimes emotional, this is often too low-key for its own good, and might have benefited from a little more traditional documentary context and shape.
This film is refreshingly serious and pays due tribute to an important public intellectual.
A few sweet, informative moments. Enough to carry it across the line.
Four short tributes to the writer, featuring Tilda Swinton, are a celebration of independent thought.
