It’s just a shame that a feel-good, crowd-pleasing ending prevents it from being even smarter.
The Moon man returns to Earth with a clever, classy and affecting thriller that never goes off the rails. If Bowie isn’t careful, he’ll soon be better known as “Duncan Jones’s father”.
An exciting, intellectually stimulating science-fiction thriller which also connects emotionally. Everyone involved earns a promotion to the premiership.
While some may quibble over Source Code's conclusion, it's increasingly rare nowadays to have a movie which trusts the intelligence of its audience. Having taken us on a wild but emotionally satisfying ride, Jones is the kind of filmmaker we need to keep on board.
It’s a fun game for a while...but [director] Jones can’t hold back an incipient tidal wave of mawkishness, helping the movie lunge for a big ending by shamelessly dismantling its own nerdy logic.
Source Code won't stand up to scrutiny afterwards, but while it's thundering along you are absolutely committed to the ride; also confused and unsettled, but never for a minute bored.
A uxuriously enjoyable film.
Dim-witted thriller.
A science fiction thriller with brains and brawn.
Clever and taut sci-fi adventure.
A slick, cerebral and - most of all - dull as all hell sci-fi calamity.
Source Code may have its flaws, but it's a solid down-payment on a career that will hopefully see Jones deliver the kind of smart, intelligent mainstream cinema that's always in too short supply.
It’s partly a question of tone: a B-movie idea is executed with sombre reverence, demanding the audience take it more seriously than it deserves or can withstand.
The efficiency of the story telling is enough to win you over.
Duncan Jones brings a philosopher's eye to this ingenious sci-fi thriller.
