A US fantasy action film in which an experiment gone wrong unleashes three mutated monsters.
Ridiculous, of course, but not as ridiculous as it might have been. As much fun as it has with the idea of animals stomping cities to rubble, it seems shy of going completely over the top, and it’s the poorer for it.
There’s spectacle to spare in a bananas B-movie that’s dumber than, well, a rock. It may not be high art, but there’s ample fun to be had.
Surely it’s time to give the Rock a role that takes him to a harder place than he finds in mushy, by-the-numbers fare like this.
Big, dumb fun with a whole lot of heart.
It is entertainingly over the top, although perhaps the CGI work isn’t quite out of the top drawer.
Dwayne Johnson stars in a splendidly silly video game adaptation that runs out of steam.
It is blockbuster cinema that is often ridiculously silly but still engaging.
These action sequences aren’t anywhere near as much fun as the ensemble cast.
It’s hard to be as awestruck by the visuals as the characters’ facial expressions suggest we should be.
