Ballet West is a ballet company that mixes professional dancers with students about to begin their careers. Over recent years, the company has developed a significant reputation in producing very high quality, classical ballet, which has developed loyal audiences in venues throughout Scotland. This production will tour China in the spring, following successful Chinese tours of “The Nutcracker and “Romeo and Juliet” in recent years.
It isn’t just the emotion in the dancers faces that is apparent, it is the rigours of skill and strength required to perform the classical repertoire. Moreover, for all the aspiring ballerinas in the audience – and there were more than a few – it brings dreams of stardom closer to an attainable reality.
The odd slip and stumble, and some terrible computer imagery aside, this impressive young company really did give their all.
