A jury has murder on their minds and a life in their hands as they decide the fate of a young delinquent accused of killing his father. But what appears to be an open and shut case soon becomes a huge dilemma as prejudices and preconceived ideas about the accused, the trial and each other turn the tables every which way, until the nail-biting climax.
There is no doubt as to the commitment of the cast and creative team who deliver an all-engrossing, all-absorbing, engaging production.
A poignant reminder of miscarriages of justice where innocent men are still languishing on death row in America convicted of crimes they didn’t commit.
As the facts are gradually revealed over the next two riveting hours, they also lay bare an assortment of everyday prejudices and knee-jerk notions of law and order fuelled by ignorance, fear and self-loathing.
It’s a very classy, expertly performed drama that whilst not bringing anything particularly new to the legacy of the great script, remains a solid, dignified and thrilling production.
Terrific performances delivered by a mighty team of actors, led by a brilliant, thoughtful Tom Conti.
The fast moving script still grips after all these years and Twelve Angry Men remains undeniably a theatrical tour de force.
