Afghanistan is a divided country on the verge of war and two childhood friends are about to be torn apart. It’s a beautiful afternoon in Kabul and the skies are full of the excitement and joy of a kite flying tournament. But neither Hassan nor Amir can foresee the terrible incident which will shatter their lives forever.
Emotive, informative and atmospheric, it gives a human face to a country that remains largely a mystery to the outside world. Well worth watching, but not an easy night at the theatre.
The Kite Runner isn't an easy watch but it is so worth it. While staying true to the novel it easily stands on its own two feet as a remarkable piece of theatre.
Uneven at times, but still retains many powerful moments from Khaled Hosseini story.
All in all, The Kite Runner is a spell-binding adaptation of a particularly difficult book which sacrifices some of the meat on the storyline bones and simplifies a few characterisations, but loses none of the emotional power and punch. With a story this raw and affecting, that’s surely the main thing.
Raw and powerful.
Like the falling prize kite, it is well worth catching.
