Hairspray

It’s Baltimore, 1962 where Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, is on a mission to follow her dreams and dance her way onto national TV. Tracy’s audition makes her a local star and soon she is using her new-found fame to fight for equality, bagging local heartthrob Link Larkin along the way! Read more …

The critical consensus

The set is pretty simple but the level of talent paired with the incredible costume design and tight choreography makes this production feel as though you're watching a performance in the West End.

Packed with talent, familiar songs and a heart full of goodness, Hairspray really should be bottled up and sold.

*****Fraser MacDonald, The Reviews Hub, 03/10/2017

If you love American high-school type musicals, you’ll love Hairspray. If, like me, you’re not a huge fan of this genre then you probably won’t. But most of those going to the Edinburgh Playhouse to see the show this week will have a fair idea of what to expect.

***(*)(*)Mike Smith, The Edinburgh Reporter, 12/03/2018

It’s a heart-warming and empowering tale that just makes you want to get up and dance.

****(*)Sarah Moyes, All Edinburgh Theatre, 13/03/2018

This exuberant production, like a can of hairspray, chokes all resistance and smothers all in its course, showcased in the finale as audience members leapt to their feet, encased in the energy of a show telling you to flaunt your inner self, and don’t stop the beat.

****(*)Lindsay Corr, Edinburgh Guide, 13/03/2018

You won’t be able to stop the beat of your hands clapping in thunderous appreciation.
