A Man's Story Trailer from Trinity film on Vimeo.
A documentary about fashion designer Ozwald Boateng.
Tiresome puff piece about Ozwald Boateng that you'd actually need to be Ozwald Boateng to enjoy.
There’s much to enjoy here, even if the documentary fails to unclothe the kind of striking fashionista insights that made The September Issue so compelling.
Sadly, rather than provide insight into Boateng’s creative process, director Varon Bonicos is dazzled by the globetrotting, celeb-schmoozing lifestyle.
Bonicos is certainly a gifted storyteller but his subject is more style than substance.
Boateng is an appealing subject: spiky, egotistical, not very good at managing the work/life balance but charismatic and with immense drive.
It may not cut as deeply as you might have hoped but fashionistas will be fascinated.
It's Zoolander without the laughs; a corporate video in the guise of a documentary, unfailingly delighted to let Boateng hold forth on the glory of Boateng.
Varan Boricos's grovelling biography.
Mostly dull with a few flourishes.
Unfortunately, the only person who loves Ozwald Boateng as much as Ozwald Boateng is director Varon Bonicos, who seems intent on accepting at face value everything his subject says with nothing but celebrity testimonials to act as a counterpoint.
