School is out and Greg is ready for the days of summer, when all his plans go wrong. What on earth is he going to do all summer?
Director David Bowers delivers the by-now-familiar mix of life lessons and goofball comedy. Oh, and as Sherlocks will note from the title, a dog makes an appearance. Otherwise, it's same old, same old, but it still works.
There’s some lively slapstick that young children should enjoy but little story to speak of and too many lame gags. A decent DVD rental but not worth a cinema visit unless it’s bucketing down.
Whilst not ground breaking or original, it provides something to entertain the family, but will quickly be forgotten after this summer.
It's perfectly workable popcorn entertainment for the school holidays.
A third helping of this friendly family entertainment would be insufferable were it not for Steve Zahn and Rachael Harris as the Wimpy Kid's parents and Robert Capron as his roly-poly friend Rowley, helpless innocent nonpareil.
Greg avoids the curse of the three in the third outing for the Wimpy Kid. Hardly groundbreaking but plenty of fun for its target audience.
