A story of a man who fakes his own death and assumes a new identity in order to escape his life, who then moves in with a woman who is also trying to leave her past behind.
The film wafts along for an hour and a half before expiring in a little cloud of vapour.
It is hard, though, to work out why two British stars were cast in such quintessentially American roles.
It is an extreme form of therapy but one that starts to have results even if we don’t believe a word of it. It doesn’t help that there isn’t a great deal of chemistry between Colin Firth and Emily Blunt or that the film turns increasingly bland and dull as it unfolds.
Firth and co-star Emily Blunt make the most of their odd-couple roles but are overwhelmed by a clumsy denouement.
