Destiny Ekaragha’s micro-budget feature debut, scripted by Bola Agbaje from her own stage play, is a lively Brit-comedy of manners full of crackling dialogue. But as it wears on, alas, a moralising tone creeps in.
An occasionally engaging but often hamfisted urban fable.
By effectively wrangling the talents of her actors, the witty, knowing tone of Agbaje's screenplay and her Peckham location, filmmaker Ekaragha has created a low budget gem that intelligently speaks to the urban experience without resorting to cliché, misery or melodrama.
The film may be uncertain and undeveloped, though there is potential.
Bola Agbaje’s streetwise, Olivier award-winning play gets a sympathetic transfer to the big screen.
