A documentary that utilizes hundreds of hours of audio that Marlon Brando recorded over the course of his life to tell the screen legend's story.
What a shame that Riley doesn't find time for Brando's only foray into directing One-Eyed Jacks, but his thoughtful approach pays off handsomely, as he delivers an abundance of fascinating detail that makes this highly entertaining documentary a must-see for Brando fans.
There is delight and distress in equal measure: for his talent, mischief, waywardness, for the disillusionment and tragedy of his later years. Unique.
Director Stevan Riley juxtaposes stills and newsreel with private tape recordings made by the actor as he mused on everything from anxiety to obesity.
Brando is engagingly self-deprecating.
Listen To Me Marlon offers a unique, enthralling insight into one of the 20th century’s most charismatic actors.
Over the course of the film Brando comes across as a sometimes funny, frequently charming guy, whose sexual dynamism in his youth disarms more than a few interviewers.
Using an archive of the star’s recollections, Brando’s gradual decline from giant of the screen to bloated bit-part player is carefully teased out.
