The critical consensus

Within the first minute of this very patchy sequel, there are gags about vomit, poo, and dildos - and the jokes go downhill from there.

**(*)(*)(*)Geoffrey MacNab, The Independent, 04/05/2016

The comedic timing from the cast, particularly Byrne and Efron, is spot on, as is the empowering message to young women that hits a similar beat to the egalitarian world imagined in Magic Mike XXL.

****(*)Katherine McLaughlin, The List, 04/05/2016

The follow-up to the surprise-hit party-animal comedy from 2014 offers more of the same, but diluted with lots of standard sequel material.

**(*)(*)(*)Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, 05/05/2016

This sequel is trapped in a comedy cul-de-sac, despite the efforts of the charmingly hapless Zac Efron.

**(*)(*)(*)Wendy Ide, The Observer, 08/05/2016

Comedy sequels very rarely improve on the original and this one is no exception. A for intentions, C for execution.
