Unsurprisingly, a larger-than-life Skarsgård is the show-stopper, even if the film as a whole is solid rather than spectacular.
An entertaining but lightweight espionage thriller.
This is meat-and-potatoes Le Carré given a generic spy-movie treatment, but still it reels you in.
All those reservations tend to chip away at an honourable, enjoyable but decidedly second division le Carré adaptation.
Without the budget of Bond or Bourne, director Susana White does her best to create a world that’s sleek, sexy and exciting, but it all looks a bit like a package holiday travelogue.
Though solid enough, this John le Carré adaptation has too little tension and too many visual cliches.
Directed by Susanna White, it nevertheless holds the attention and there are some powerful outbursts against corruption and the black economy which feel very relevant.
