The critical consensus

For all its foibles and occasional missteps, Bridget Jones’s Baby marks a very welcome return for a character who, all these years on, hasn't lost her neurotic charm in the slightest.

***(*)(*)Geoffrey MacNab, The Independent, 06/09/2016

Broad gags, choice turns and some terrific slapstick involving a hospital revolving door elevate a possibly opportunistic outing into a solid and satisfying comeback.

***(*)(*)Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, 06/09/2016

More than a match for the original, the third outing for Bridget has a solid story with holes you’ll forgive thanks to the much-missed onscreen magic created by a director and her leading woman.

****(*)Terri White, Empire Online, 06/09/2016

A warm, witty and welcome return – intelligently evolved and an absolute hoot. As Bridget would say: ‘v.good’.

****(*)Jane Crowther, Total Film, 06/09/2016

Renee Zellweger returns as a newly-pregnant Bridget Jones in this disappointing new instalment of the comedy franchise.

**(*)(*)(*)Mary Ann Johanson, The List, 12/09/2016

Bridget Jones’s Baby does nothing to tamper with a winning formula and everything about the film is comfortingly familiar.

****(*)Allan Hunter, Daily Express, 16/09/2016

Excellent physical comedy and Emma Thompson as a doctor stand out in this third instalment of the series.
