Age of Shadows (15)

Action, Drama, Thriller

The critical consensus

Stylish and steely South Korean espionage thriller from Kim Jee-woon.

***(*)(*)Eddie Harrison, The List, 20/03/2017

The Age Of Shadows is a tremendous thriller, combining Hitchcockian elements with action set-pieces and a slippery plot line as full of twists and betrayals as one of John Le Carre's Cold War thrillers.

****(*)Geoffrey Macnab, The Independent, 22/03/2017

It's frequently dazzling--and fairly extreme.

****(*)Alistair Harkness, The Scotsman, 23/03/2017

Set in Japanese-occupied Korea, Kim Jee-woon’s violent tale delivers bang for its buck in the form of brash action sequences and a chase on a train.

***(*)(*)Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, 24/03/2017

Plenty of blood but few fleshed-out characters.
