Boss Baby, The (U)

Boss Baby, The (U)

Animation, Comedy, Family

A suit-wearing briefcase-carrying baby pairs up with his seven-year old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.

The critical consensus

The Boss Baby has interesting visual textures, a few good jokes and Baldwin has fun. But these elements never transcend an odd premise that fails to deliver big laughs or emotional heft.

The Boss Baby just doesn't have the kind of lovable concept that makes for a great family animation, although Baldwin's vocal performance raises a few indulgent smiles.

The plot is thin but there is enough boundless energy and quick-witted laughs to keep you distracted and Baldwin as the ruthless, domineering little one is having such a good time that it proves infectious.

It’s a big, gooey mess of a movie, without the gags or visual ingenuity to compensate for its infantile premise.

**(*)(*)(*)Geoffrey Macnab, The Independent, 05/04/2017

Over-extends a brilliant short-film idea into a gibberish, over-complicated and desperately unfunny feature.

**(*)(*)(*)Alistair Harkness, The Scotsman, 06/04/2017

Set in a world in which babies are made, not born, this is saddled with a plot that doesn’t bear repeating, but there are some laughs.
