Columbus (12A)

Drama

US drama in which two strangers bond over discussions of the architecture of Columbus, Indiana.

The critical consensus

Similarities with Lost in Translation are obvious and, like that film, Columbus effortlessly creeps under your skin and stays there.

****(*)Nikki Baughan, The List, 01/10/2018

An exquisitely constructed story of love, loss and architecture, Columbus marks the debut feature of enigmatic video essayist Kogonada, who’s built up quite the online following with mini films that deconstruct the way we watch cinema.

****(*)Alistair Harkness, The Scotsman, 04/10/2018

The architecture is the star in the feature debut of the Korean-American critic Kogonada – a passionate drama with visual echoes of Kubrick.

****(*)Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, 05/10/2018

Aesthetically pleasing even if the narrative is a little shaky.

Hannah Woodhead, Little White Lies, 08/10/2018
