French drama in which a group of family and friends pursue relationships during the summer of 1994 in a small beachside town in the South of France.
A boisterous ode to life, love and youth, Mektoub has moments that charm and beguile but not enough to justify a three-hour running time, for what is merely the first part of the story.
Abdellatif Kechiche’s three-hour epic seductively depicts the hedonistic antics of a twentysomething crowd hanging out in the Mediterranean heat.
A film in which every dull scene stretches on for five times longer than it needs to. Painful.
It goes nowhere fast and Kechiche’s camera consistently ogles his female cast but he remains a terrific director of actors, the intimacy and authenticity conveying a real lust for life to sweeten the hefty running time.
