Efterklang @ Oran Mor

FINAL MAGIC CHAIRS TOUR FOR EFTERKLANG with AN ISLAND (Vincent Moon), film screening as support.

The last three and a half years have been a hugely busy time for Copenhagen’s Efterklang. Since the 2007 release of second album Parades (via The Leaf Label), the band have toured non-stop and yet somehow found time to write, record and release their – 4 star Mojo rated – follow-up Magic Chairs (through their new label 4AD) in February 2010. Efterklang will be on tour in 2011 from February 17 to March 18 and will bring their remarkable live show to Glasgow’s Oran Mor on Thursday 24 February. They have proclaimed that this will be their last tour for a long time. Once the tour is over Efterklang have played more than 345 concerts in over 30 countries across North America, Europe and China over a period of just three and a half years. Six of those shows have been Performing Parades performances where Efterklang collaborated with classical orchestras like The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, The Danish National Chamber Orchestra, Metropole Orkest and Britten Sinfonia to perform Parades in its entirety. The band also found time for SlaraffenKLANG, a side project the group shares with their friends from the Danish band Slaraffenland and they also launched the charity and school project Efterkids.com.

Taking a well deserved break after this tour will give Mads, Casper, Thomas and Rasmus the opportunity to start working on their fourth album and they have stated that the band have no intensions of touring before that album will be released sometime in the long distant future.

Praised for their records throughout the years, Efterklang is actually a band that truly comes alive on stage.  Their music is difficult to pin down as it references many different genres.  Yet orchestrated experimental pop comes close to a definition of Efterklang.  And using that description, the band comes highly recommended for the likes of Talk Talk, Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, Mouse on Mars and Talking Heads fans.  Efterklang will be on tour with their 7 piece live band featuring Peter Broderick (Bella Union), Heather Broderick (Preservation) and Frederik Teige.

Efterklang are well-known as one of the most fascinating and uplifting live acts around today.  Their performances are truly stunning and as such Oran Mor and Rooftop Movement is extremely proud to present Efterklang in Glasgow on the 24th February 2011 as part of their European tour.

AN ISLAND

In the recent years Efterklang has collaborated with the French filmmaker Vincent Moon on several occasions. February 2011 their new film An Island will premiere worldwide and Efterklang are bringing the fascinating film with them on tour. There will be no support bands on the 24th, but instead a screening of An Island will take place before every show. The film, that has the same length as an album, sees Efterklang arriving at an unnamed Island in the Danish countryside and over an intense period of 4 days the band collaborates with more than 200 local musicians, kids and parents, creating new performances and interpretations of songs from their Magic Chairs album.

Vincent Moon (inventor of the Take Away Shows, and the man behind films about The National, Mogwai, Arcade Fire etc.) says: ‘An Island is not similar to any other collaboration I have done with bands or artists. This is a collaboration on a deeper level’.
