Five Guys Named Moe is a production that is saved by the excellent music and talented cast rather than being the promised musical triumph it could be.
Sired in part on the back of the 1980s vogue for retro-cool jazz dance, Peters' life-affirming concoction resembles A Christmas Carol in zoot suits, and even after a quarter of a century is still singing, swinging and making merry like Christmas for all it's worth.
Despite its festive billing there isn't a single reference to Christmas in Five Guys Named Moe, but the high-energy romp with a message of 'Let The Good Times Roll' is well suited to the season.
Boisterous enjoyment and foot-tapping music compensate for outdated attitudes.
Bandleader Louis Jordan’s songwriting skill shines through in this breezy jukebox show, which makes up for sparse plotting with abundant feelgood spirit.
This is a tremendous show – wild, colourful and fearsomely feelgood and best enjoyed after a couple of cocktails.
The singing and dancing is terrific, the lighting spectacular, the six-piece swing-band superb; and the generous male energy of the whole show an absolute joy, for anyone in search of an evening of pure festive fun.
Don't miss Five Guys Named Moe!
