Monkee Business follows four young lads who, with the help of a few sexy Russian spies, nonsensical nuns and the odd tambourine, unwittingly get caught up in the most madcap adventure even Austin Powers would be proud of. Read more …
With a hilarious mix of groovy adventure, dreamy romance and zany comedy, Monkee Business is the ultimate feel-good musical featuring hit after hit including I'm A Believer, Last Train To Clarksville, My Boy Lollipop, You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me and the smash hit Daydream Believer alongside many, many more iconic songs from the swinging sixties.
While the idea is there, this is a real let down of a world premiere and needs to be taken back to the rehearsal room if it is to stand any chance of becoming "the business".
What redeems it are, of course, the hits, Last Train To Clarksville, I’m A Believer and Daydream Believer, though the stand-out number is Scarlette Douglas’s rendition of My Boy Lollipop. One for the easily pleased, and Monkees fans.
The cast are this show's greatest asset. The rest of the show feels like a child monkeying around on a stage which is far too big for him.
Where the show really hits all the right notes is when our four doppelgangers, backed by a quite excellent live band, deliver The Monkees hits so convincingly you'd believe you were listening to the real thing.
The real star of the show is the music. The songs were performed sensationally by the cast and the band, and, in some cases, by the audience.
