Mayfesto--2012

The theatre festival returns

Mayfesto was established in 2010 as a new theatre festival for Glasgow. Read more …

Celebrating the spoken word and exploring contemporary global issues drawn out of political circumstance, it was both provocative and engrossing.

The inspiration came from Glasgow’s original theatre festival, Mayfest, which ended some fifteen years ago and which was aimed at being a ‘people’s festival’ fitting a then industrial city with a strong political tradition. Mayfesto is all about presenting ‘agenda-based’ work and a desire to re-establish that occasion to celebrate theatre in a city which has such a tremendous reputation and thirst for it as an art form.

This year we present a programme of theatre, readings, talks and workshops that offer commentary on contemporary social and political issues. From the situation in Egypt in No Time for Art 0+1 to the 2011 riots in England of Chalk Farm; from the Omagh bombing in Minute After Midday to young people from the Middle East collaborating via Skype with their Scottish contemporaries in Springtime, we offer three weeks of engaged and engaging work.

Be here. Be part of it.
