Eight very different lives. Eight very different priorities - but Humanity unites us... right?

Through stories of betrayal, of loss, of make-believe, of sex and of faith, Ella Hickson’s 2008 award-winning play explores our human need to connect to something larger than ourselves. A search for something to believe in, something to hold onto, someone to talk to. Vivid, poignant, cynical and witty...

The critical consensus

There are finely nuanced performances, particularly from Scarlett Mack as Bobby and Maria Teresa Creasey as Astrid in a compendium culled from observations of recent history that remains moving.

The quality of Hickson’s writing remains astonishing, with a huge, angry energy and poetry; and in Mark Stevenson’s production, the eight characters interact in increasingly fascinating ways, moving in and out of each other’s stories like passing shadows in a fragmented society, while each lone voice contnues to tell its tale.
