Be warned, this show has rude parts!
Keeping in just the right amount of the original feel to appeal to time-warping cult fans, this sparkling production is the perfect celebration to sail into the fourth decade of a musical theatre phenomenon.
I suspect they’ll still be rolling – and rocking – in the aisles, 40 years hence.
Good to see that Rocky Horror is as broad, funny and fun as it's always been. Put on your gold hotpants and do the Time Warp again.
It’s fast, furious, frantic, fabulous, frisky and freaky and one helluva night out that you won’t want to miss.
The show itself could please a crowd like Dr. Frank N. Furter with a box of Viagra but this production has lost much of the stagecraft and dramatic jeopardy which made recent revivals so enjoyable.
What matters here is that Luscombe and his cast deliver up a barnstorming night of entertainment, fun, and laughter unlikely to be matched anywhere else in Scottish theatre this year.
‘Rocky Horror Show’ is often referred to as having a cult following and that is very true but if you are not fully committed to it then you may be at a loss to understand why it engenders such loyalty. While the script and songs are delivered by a cast without a weakness, the show seems to lack the sparkle anticipated.
There isn’t a weak performance in the piece. Where this show goes askew is the pace – never mind time warp, it rattles along at warp speed, with the first act coming in at 45 minutes and the second at around 50. There’s never time to sit back and bask in the fun, with the second half, particularly, feeling more like a concert performance than a play.
It still delivers huge audiences, shrieking with taboo-busting delight; and when it comes with such a classy blast of music, dancing, acting and design, there’s no denying that even 40 years on, this show rocks.
