Monty Python's Spamalot

Monty Python's Spamalot

A musical lovingly ripped off from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, by Eric Idle and John Du Prez

• Monty Python’s Spamalot will begin an extensive (never-ending more like) UK tour making its Scottish Premiere at the King’s Theatre Glasgow on Monday 14th June Read more …

• The producers of Spamalot (a dodgy lot) are delighted to feature in the show, ERIC IDLE as GOD* (see small print)

“The most infectiously funny musical of the millennium” (Eric Idle), Monty Python’s Spamalot, is about to make a sweeping tour of the UK. Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is an almost-new musical with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score, (well, almost) created by Eric Idle and John Du Prez.

Audiences all around the world have been roaring with laughter since Monty Python’s Spamalot won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005. Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and features a bevy (or possibly a brace) of beautiful show girls, witch burnings (cancelled as too expensive) not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people. The show features fantastic tunes which are catchier than the plague He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights of the Round Table, Find Your Grail and of course the Nation’s Favourite Comedy Song (Reader’s Digest Poll 2009) Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.

* As a recording! We couldn’t afford to cart this God-like comic round the country!

The critical consensus

The whole show is remarkably fresh and topical, with local references woven in rather than tacked on.

Shona Craven

Despise disspointing cutbacks, [it] is a worthwhile night out and presented by one of the most genuinely engaging casts in touring theatre.

The songs are witty, the staging is clever, the singing is startlingly powerful, and the whole show has an air of good humour and grace that is altogether rare in post-modern entertainment.

You don't need to be a Python fan to enjoy this very funny show.
