Recently aired over Christmas on BBC1 and following on from the hit West End production, this brand new adaptation by Rachel Wagstaff marks the very first touring production of the play.
Birdsong is a superbly crafted production.
Thoroughly recommended.
A structurally sound and solidly conceived production then, but one that never quite takes flight the way you’d hope it would.
Birdsong is a hard-hitting and emotional production, well performed by its multi-skilled cast and it deserves to be recognised as a great piece of new theatre, however gritty it may be.
The result is very slow-moving dramatic experience, sometimes intense, but often excessively wordy, and full of false climaxes and multiple endings.
