Fiddler on the Roof

From the award-winning producers of The King and I and High Society comes a new production of one of the world’s favourite musicals, directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood, the nation’s favourite Strictly Come Dancing judge and master of the musical stage and starring the celebrated and acclaimed actor, director and writer, Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky in the iconic 70s TV series Starsky & Hutch) in the lead role of Tevye. Tevye, the local milkman in his village of Anatevka, has always stuck by his traditions but suddenly his head strong daughters decide that they want to marry for love rather than accept whatever Yente the Matchmaker comes up with. Tevye loves his daughters but has to convince his wife, and the villagers, that their decisions are actually falling in with tradition – not any easy thing to do but if anyone can do it, the wily Tevye can!

Filled to the brim with classic songs like If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset and To Life, Fiddler On The Roof was the longest running production on Broadway for over 13 years and when you join Tevye, his family and friends, you will understand why.

The critical consensus

There’s inevitably a sentimental undertow, but the cast keep it gritty, heartfelt and passionate.

Mark Shenton, The Stage, 11/09/2013

I cannot fault this production. This is a perfect Fiddler on the Roof. The multi talented cast performed the characters superbly and played the music with aplomb. A must see!

The challenging and innovative flavours of new writing and experimental theatre can be a very rewarding experience, but sometimes what one craves most is a return to the nourishing comfort of the classics.

*****Julie Dawson, TVBomb, 02/10/2013

Being too enjoyable is not really much of a criticism in a musical, particularly one with such an excellent central performance.

****(*)Hugh Simpson, All Edinburgh Stage, 02/10/2013

This joyous, moving and magical revival celebrates fifty years of Fiddler on the Roof and proves once again why this show is such an extraordinary successful stage musical.
