Wicked

In a brilliantly witty re-imagining of the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Read more …

Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The critical consensus

This touring version is polished and the cast do not put a foot wrong. The ensemble may be small but they all deliver in every scene. And, as a touring production - you are not cheated - this has 'West End quality' running through it like a stick of rock.

If the touring production achieves a new-found intimacy, it’s mainly because the cast members seem to respond so keenly to their closer proximity with the audience.

Roger Foss, The Stage, 19/09/2013

A sugar-sweet story mixed with a pinch of deceit and a dollop of emotion, this is one potion that boils down to be Wicked-ly good theatre. Despite some very minor flaws, it will leave you laughing, maybe crying and guaranteed to have you on your feet at the end.

****(*)Fraser MacDonald, The Public Reviews, 08/05/2014

If you’re lucky enough to have tickets already, prepare yourself for the best production Glasgow has seen. If not, call the box office for returns because you really don’t want to miss this!

*****Adelle Hopkins, Theatre in Scotland, 08/05/2014

A couple of memorable songs, dry ice, costume changes and monkeys with wings are not enough to give this show substance it wants to deliver. Shame.

***(*)(*)Anna Burnside, The List, 09/05/2014

As a spectacle, this was truly impressive. But it did feel rather like being chased by a witch, screeching “Surrender Dorothy!”

****(*)Andrea Mullaney, The Scotsman, 10/05/2014

The show poses the question, are people born wicked or do they (in a knowing paraphrase of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night) have “wickedness thrust upon them”? What follows is a witty, humorous, sometimes satirical answer.

Mark Brown, Scottish Stage (Sunday Herald), 13/05/2014

It’s difficult to avoid clichés when looking for a headline to describe this sumptuous musical.

*****Gordon Clayton, Edinburgh Guide, 21/11/2014

An all encompassing, joyous production that balances true tenacity and tongue in cheek humour. Dazzlingly performed and visually spectacular, it will exceed your expectations in every possible manner.

*****Douglas James Greenwood, The Edinburgh Reporter, 23/11/2014

This is a production which has huge production values, near-perfect performances and delivers, packaged up in its escapist pleasures, a strong and resonant message that we would all well-heed.

*****Thom Dibdin, All Edinburgh Theatre, 02/12/2014
