But when she commissioned her lover, Vita Sackville-West and her bisexual husband Harold Nicolson, to speak on the subject of 'Marriage' it was a step too far for Director-General John Reith. Love With a Capital ‘L’ examines the clash between Reith and Matheson, two people with very different views both on public broadcasting and on personal - not to say, sexual - fulfilment.


The critical consensus

In Hamish Pirie’s production, Benny Young and Lesley Hart play Reith and Matheson with feeling, although in a style that sometimes seems as stilted as the prosier portions of the script.
