Allan Stewart plays the role of Dame May McTrot, Andy Gray returns to the King’s Theatre pantomime as King Crumble and Grant Stott will be at his meanest ever as the baddie Fleshcreep - the giant’s henchman!
This year’s King’s Theatre production features the biggest giant and tallest beanstalk in pantoland! The computer controlled giant is so big that he can pick up a human and carry them to cloud land where he lives…and from a few tiny beans the beanstalk grows up through the auditorium and climbs to 35 feet!
Bursting at the seams with brand new comedy and an abundance of laughs, stunning sets and outrageous costumes, Jack and the Beanstalk carries the King’s Theatre hallmark of quality and outstanding entertainment for all ages and with ticket prices to suit every pocket, you won’t have to sell the family cow to enjoy pantomime at its best!
Fun for some – but no longer true panto for all.
The whole sorry mess is over-reliant on gizmos, flash-bangs and egos for its applause.
[The script] robs the story of emotional engagement, making the persuasiveness of the performances seem doubly impressive.
Together with charming performances from the supporting cast, it culminates in a witty show that oozes Christmas cheer: the perfect antidote to the bitter winter.
Minor niggles such as these aside, this is a simply tremendous show, the best by a country mile of the ten or so offerings I have seen in Scotland this year and one which will give top quality Christmas cheer to the tens of thousands of people who will come to see it.
It's something of a relief to turn to a straightforward feelgood pantomime.
It is good to see the old team reunited and the panto is colourful, funny and entertaining enough.
