Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic children’s novel, The Secret Garden, comes to wondrous life in this brand new production, featuring the enchanting music of Lucy Simon and the spellbinding lyrics of Marsha Norman.
In a sad and lonely house on the Yorkshire moors, the melancholy routine of a family in mourning is turned upside down with the arrival of young orphan, Mary Lennox. When the curious child discovers the key to the hidden door of a secret, walled garden, a long-locked away magic is released, changing the lives of all, forever.
Set pieces glide across the stage ... a beautiful and emotion-heavy production.
A live band sends the music powering out of the pit – all to splendid effect but, while adults will be swept up in the sung narrative, younger children may fidget, as if locked out of this Secret Garden.
Beautifully staged and choreographed, this Tony Award winning tale is visually enchanting. Just be prepared for more ghostly shenanigans than Heathcliffe and Cathy.
The Secret Garden manages to inject enough love and hope to rise above the misery.
A gorgeous, polished, haunting, intelligent and deeply dramatic piece of music theatre, spectacular in scale, beautifully performed, and powerfully directed by Anna Linstrum, with fine design and lighting by Francis O'Connor and Tim Mitchell.
A thoroughly entertaining production that leaves few dry eyes in the house.
