f you are looking for a show in superb setting stick with Stick Man this Christmas.
This is a well constructed show, well though out and perfect for the time of year. It almost certainly helps that the source material was wonderful, but nothing should be taken away from the craft of a brilliant children’s theatre company.
It will nevertheless provide a very decent and enjoyable hour of entertainment for all the family.
There’s a charming simplicity to this production that sends a very clear message to the young minds watching it – you could do this, too. Readily available items such as umbrellas, beach balls, rubber rings, coloured paper and, of course, sticks all play a part in bringing Julia Donaldson’s picture book to life. Proving that innovative direction and set design can trump a big budget any day.
What this never does as an adaptation is force a new reading on the book. The two can exist side-by-side. The brilliance of Sean Kane, Claire Dargo and Gordon Cooper is that this one is as vivid as the original.
