A funny, foolish, madcap story, with a darkly mischievous side, that the whole family can enjoy together this Christmas. A story about knowing when to let go and the challenges that come with finding your place in the world. Read more …
Rapunzel’s hair is out of control. It doesn’t matter what she does with it, it’ll never stay in one place. As Rapunzel comes of age, her loving but overbearing mother locks her in a tower to protect her from the world beyond their garden. But, like her hair, Rapunzel is not one to be contained. With the help of a wild pig, her hapless lover, and some bumbling criminal types, Rapunzel will put her world, and the world beyond, to rights.
Despite strong design and spirited performances, this retelling can’t decide whether it’s a serious Christmas show or a panto with age-inappropriate jokes.
Aside from many flaws, it's a watchable enough yarn, with masses of energy.
There are terrific central performances.
It is an entertaining production and has some wonderful elements to it, but is rather more a bleak tale than a warm, fuzzy, festive one. The show has its merits, but if you’re looking for a fun-filled night with the kids then maybe stick to a pantomime.
Siddons and Kemp's take on things resembles an old-school rock and roll based fringe theatre show designed for adolescents of all ages.
Fabulous.
The lasting impression is of a colourful patchwork of disparate moods and episodes rather than a coherent whole.
