Snow White--Kings, Glasgow

Grab your pillar box lipstick and your mirror as we welcome back Snow White for the legendary King’s panto. Read more …

Making his long-awaited return to the panto stage is Scottish comedy legend Gregor Fisher (Rab C. Nesbitt) as haphazard Hector the Henchman. He’s behind you! King’s favourite Des Clarke (Capital FM) takes on the role of lovable Muddles and dishing out the dastardly orders with a big slice of jealousy as the Wicked Queen is Juliet Cadzow (Balamory). Expect plenty of laughs and close calls as Muddles tries to keep his BFF Snow White out of the clutches of the Queen and Hector,  but please - no broken mirrors!

Keeping the Dwarfs in check, chatting to woodland creatures and coifing her jet black bob will be Jenny Douglas as Snow White, whilst Allan Jay as Prince Lorenzo is seeking love’s first kiss with the fairest of them all.

With magic and laughs for kids and big kids alike, Snow White is the fairest and funniest choice this Christmas. So check yersel in the Magic Mirror, take another bite of the apple (if you dare) and skip on down to the King’s for the brawest panto o’ them ‘aw!

The critical consensus

In short, this Snow White manages to be serviceable. No gusto or inspiration, but no major trip-ups either.

The best that can be said is that a trip to this show is better than a night in front of the TV, but not much more.

Funny, picturesque, and good-hearted.

****(*)Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman, 12/12/2015

The panto stays fairly true to the original plot with a just a few minor script flaws. But, overall, a heart warming family show by a bunch of true professionals makes for a very entertaining evening.

This grand old theatre demands a bespoke pantomime. Sadly, even with the services of Gregor Fisher, this offering just isn’t funny enough often enough.
