At its absurd yet entirely believable conclusion, their poisonous marriage has battered and seduced its audience in equal measure. Dance of Death is an exhausting encounter with a couple who, for better or worse, are most definitely in love.
This claustrophobic three-hander can be electrifying but Tam Dean Burn’s erratic Captain upsets the balance of a delicately calibrated conflict.
Dance of Death is a ferocious late addition to the Citz’ programme, and a stunning platform to witness both Burn and McEvoy on blazing form.
Achieves a memorable poetic intensity, not easy to interpret in all its twisting depths, but impossible to ignore.
At 80 minutes straight through, Edmunds’s production is immersive in every sense. While at times painful to behold, Alice and Edgar’s circular battle is exhilarating and, in glimpses, all too believably human.
A fine and merry dance indeed, with an impeccable trio at the helm.
