Based on the 1982 novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, this thrilling stage production examines desperation, injustice, friendship and hope behind the claustrophobic bars of a maximum security facility. The 1994 feature film starred Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman and was nominated for seven Academy Awards.

The critical consensus

Beautifully adapted for the stage, this production follows the 1982 novella rather than the 1994 movie which regularly tops the "Greatest Films of All Time" lists. The script is strong and the story is uplifting and genuinely touching.
